Unicorn

Unicorn

Gifts: Faith. Uniqueness. Healing. Mysticism. Freedom. Single-pointed focus. Making magic. Strong imagination.

Challenges: Elusiveness. Aloofness. Not being grounded. Blind faith.

You either love Unicorn or you’re totally dismissive of it. Poor Unicorn has become so overdone in pop culture that it may appear to have lost most of its power. If you are dismissive of Unicorn, then you probably see Unicorn as a frivolous flight of fancy, impotent to help you, and too silly to follow.

What’s sad about the overabundance of Unicorn paraphernalia is that it sends the wrong message about Unicorn. Unicorn is not frivolous or impotent. It is deeply powerful and chooses very few people to guide.

Unicorn’s big lesson is faith—in oneself, in a higher power, in the oneness of all living things. With Unicorn as your spirit animal, you probably already have lots of faith—or none at all. Like other “mythical” creatures, Unicorn enjoys the challenge of working in extremes. So Unicorn often shows up for people with so much faith that the idea of spirit animal Unicorn doesn’t surprise them at all, or people with so little faith that they would reject all spirit animals sooner than they would accept the idea of Unicorn guiding them.

Unicorn is an excellent spirit animal for artists, writers, engineers, and other creative types. Unicorn offers the gift of a vivid imagination and boundless creativity. This comes in part from Unicorn’s status as an “imaginary” creature and from Unicorn’s strong focus on freedom. Combine imaginary with free and you get someone who is a font of ideas, a gifted brainstormer and innovator.

Are we talking about you yet?

Unicorn gifts imbue with you a sense of wonder. You see the world as magical, and you help make the world magical—proving your perspective correct. Unicorn’s horn is like a magic wand, focusing your attention and your power. When you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Trite though it may be, Unicorn can make it so.

Unicorn being related to Horse should give you a sense of groundedness. But its strong imagination and emphasis on the horn instead can make you ungrounded and flighty. You may have more ideas than you know what to do with. How on earth can you choose? That’s where Unicorn’s horn and faith come in handy. Use your horn/magic wand to help you choose, and use your faith to trust that you will choose wisely.

A challenge for Unicorn people can be relating to other, non-Unicorn people. Unicorn can give you a head-in-the-clouds elusiveness. People don’t understand you, and you just don’t get them. Your faith and imagination can overwhelm them. This is no reason to hide or water down your gifts! Keep being You and have faith that the right people won’t elude you.
